Ryan Beatty's new album is truly a masterpiece. While his first album, "Boy in Jeans," was profoundly energetic, his sophomore album seems to relay a personal meaning behind it. I was only familiar with "Haircut" and "God in Jeans" from his first album, "Boy in Jeans." Admittedly, I was not too fond of this album as it was mainstream pop-centered. With a few exceptions, I generally do not enjoy the vibe of that genre of music. "Dreaming of David" is outlined with such intricacy giving the illusion of barely any production. Ryan Beatty's elevating voice sounds like a blurry camera finally adjusting to the light.
When I first heard "Shimmer," I instantly knew this was going to be an album I would connect to. After listening to the entire album, I immediately fell in love with "Backseat" and "Brother." The minimalistic production of the album eerily drew me in. The ominous intro of "Brother" and the energetic vocals in "Patchwork" and "Hawkshaw" provide a contrast that entertains variation.
I had first gotten into Ryan Beatty through BROCKHAMPTON. This band shaped the beginning months of my sophomore year of high school, and I later started listening to the members' individual albums. Looking on this past year filled with ups and downs, "Dreaming of David" truly seems to define each individual part of that journey. Each track holds such sentimental meaning behind it, which I value wholeheartedly.
If you are into alternative R&B give "Dreaming of David" a listen. You won't regret it.
